We’re one of the few optometric practices that offer both the MiBo Thermoflo and LipiFlow treatments for meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Both treatments are specifically designed to target the root of the problem, MGD.
With the MiBoFlo treatment, we gently massage the outer skin of the eyelids using ultrasound gel and apply controlled, continuous heat with the MiBo Thermoflo device. The heat absorbs into the tissue and helps to break down the hardened lipids allowing the glands to produce thinner, clearer lipids and a healthier tear film. This is a relaxing process and many patients report they have immediate relief after their treatment.
LipiFlow is a 12- minute treatment also designed to remove blockages from the meibomian glands. Heat is delivered to both the inner and outer lids along with a therapeutic motion. This helps reduce blockage and allows for production of oils to help with the tear film. This, too, is a safe procedure; often results are not felt as quickly as the MiBoFlo treatment, but the doctors at 20/20 Dry Eye Spa will be happy to explain the differences in procedure and determine which treatment is best for you.
Prokera biologic corneal bandages have been cleared by the FDA
When it comes to severe cases, Dr. Dinh or Dr. Lee might recommend a treatment plan involving a Bio-Tissue product called Prokera. This is a type of regenerative medicine designed to restore or establish normal function.
If a cornea can’t heal, then MGD can’t be treated. In this case, they might choose to use a healing lens that is applied directly to the cornea like a contact lens. This natural application helps heal the surface of the eye and return it to a healthy state. Within 5-7 days the damaged eye surface should be healed, vision should be improved and pain should be soothed.
Prokera tissue is a procedure based approach and is inserted and removed in the office at 20/20 Dry Eye Spa. When you come in for an appointment, the doctor will let you know if you’re a candidate for Prokera. Find out how you can see more clearly and feel better.
